World View: Conventional Arsenal Degree of Currency (Excluding AFVs), 2021

Heat map depicting the relative currency of each indexed state’s inventory of indexed weapon systems in 2021. “Current” systems are those categorized as competitive (tier 2), advanced (tier 3), or cutting-edge (tier 4). Aging (tier 1) and obsolete (tier 0) systems are not considered current. Armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) are excluded; every indexed state has a large, mostly aging inventory of AFVs that can cause misleading noise in percentage appraisals of technological composition while accounting in most cases for a relatively small share of state CFP. CFPI defines the AFV category to consist of armed, armored vehicles other than main battle tanks (MBTs).

Indexed Weapon Systems Count, 2021

Column chart depicting each state’s total count of indexed weapon systems in 2021. This chart will be less useful than its counterparts broken down by degree of technological sophistication (below) and by domain and system role (forthcoming in an update; make sure to check the changelog!). System counting is usually not instructive even without considerable context; pairing with CFPI scores can provide some of this context. This chart includes armored fighting vehicles (AFVs).

Indexed Weapon Systems Count by Technological Sophistication, 2021

Column chart depicting each state’s total count of indexed weapon systems in 2021 broken down along each of five degrees of relative technological sophistication. This chart includes armored fighting vehicles (AFVs).

Conventional Arsenal Technological Composition by Percent (Excluding AFVs), 2021

Vertical band chart depicting each indexed state’s percentage of indexed systems categorized in each of five tiers of relative technological sophistication. Vs that can cause misleading noise in percentage appraisals of technological composition while accounting in most cases for a relatively small share of state CFP. CFPI defines the AFV category to consist of armed, armored vehicles other than main battle tanks (MBTs).
